I.What is Color Masterbatch?

Color Masterbatch is a concentrated mixture of pigments, polymer resin, and functional additives. When added to virgin plastic, it provides uniform color, high stability, and better processability compared to direct pigment use.

Color masterbatch is widely used in:

II.Color Masterbatch Production Process

Our entire production process includes five key steps:

1. Raw Material Selection & Preparation

  • Pigments: Chosen based on heat stability, dispersion, hiding power, brightness, and UV resistance.
  • Carrier Resins: PE, PP, PET, PS, or EVA – ensuring compatibility with customers’ final polymers.
  • Additives: Improve pigment dispersion, prevent agglomeration, and enhance processing stability.

The right raw material selection determines 70% of the final color quality and processing performance.

2. Accurate Dosing & Premixing

All raw materials are precisely weighed according to the color formulation, then pre-mixed using high-speed mixers to coat the carrier resin evenly with pigments.
Goal: Ensure uniform blending before melting and compounding.

3. Compounding / Extrusion

The premixed materials are fed into a twin-screw extruder, where:

  • They are melted at 180–280°C, depending on polymer type.
  • Pigments are thoroughly dispersed into the polymer under high shear and pressure.

The result is a homogeneous molten color compound, ready for cooling and pelletizing.

4. Cooling & Pelletizing

The molten color compound passes through a cooling water bath and is then cut into uniform pellets.
Standard pellet size: 2–3 mm – ideal for blending with virgin resins during your production.

5. Quality Control (QC)

Before packaging, every batch undergoes strict testing:

  • Color Strength & Gloss (ΔE): Measured by spectrophotometer vs. master sample.
  • Dispersion Quality: Ensures no pigment agglomeration.
  • Thermal & Light Stability: Tested under ISO standards.
  • Polymer Compatibility: Verified with base resins (PP, PE, PET, etc.).

Only batches that meet all quality standards are approved for packaging and shipment.
